Balesh Dhankar convicted of drugging and raping 5 women in Australia

The court labelled him as one of the worst rapists in history

On Monday, a district court jury in Sydney, Australia, convicted Indian-origin Balesh Dhankhar guilty of drugging and raping five Korean women after enticing them to his flat with bogus work advertisements.

Dhankhar, a data exper with a prominent member of the Indian diaspora in Australia with political ties, was on trial on 39 counts, including 13 counts of rape committed between January and October of this year. He has been labelled as "one of the worst rapists" in recent municipal history.

The Sydney Morning Herald (SMH) claimed that when police raided his flat in Sydney in October 2018, they discovered dozens of tapes of him sexually assaulting the ladies.

"The videos were organised into folders, each labelled with the name of a Korean woman." The police then discovered a sequence of bookmarks on Dhankhar's browser," SMH said.

According to the SMH, it all started in 2017 with a phoney job advertisement for Korean translators.

Dhankhar interviewed the victims at the Hilton hotel cafe before forcing them to eat dinner, drink soju, and drink wine. He also provided them with ice cream and wine laced with sedatives.

Then Dhankhar would concoct an excuse to go up to his World Square Tower flat. "He would occasionally promise them a view of the Sydney Opera House or claim he needed his car keys."

He was caught on October 21, 2018, after his fifth victim woke up as he was raping her and texted a friend while hiding in the bathroom, according to the Daily Mail.
