Beat the heat with easy recipe of ice apple sorbet

'An Apple a day, keeps the doctor away.' A much loved fruit in India, apples are hydrating heroes in such a situation. A heat wave can affect human health in a varied manner and maintain ideal body temperature in this soaring summer. 

 

Summer is here. The season of plethora of fruits, vegetables and the constant need of quenching our thirst with a sip of these fruit juice is here. Summer is when we get dehydrated often, our throats dry up and we constantly feel the urge to keep our bodies hydrated with liquids. Be it water or fruit juice, we always feel the need rehydrating our bodies. Summer is also the time when fruits such as mangoes, watermelons, litchis make their way into our plates and become a part of our summer food plan. 

 

Apple is a highly nutritious fruit that is available almost throughout the year. Apples are used in a quintessential household on an almost daily basis - from breakfast fruit to evening sorbet. Vinoth Kumar Jayapraksh, Executive Sous Chef, Conrad Bengaluru shares a recipe for Ice Apple Sorbet. 

 

 

(Component) 

 

* Ice apple pulp - 6 Nos 

 

* Cardamom - 10 Gms 

 

* Fresh lime juice - 5 MI 

 

 

 

(Method) 

 

 

Clean the Ice Apple pulp and ensure there is no white skin left on the fruit. Roast some cardamom and make powder out of it. Then add some hot water and keep it covered. Put the ice apples in a blender and squeeze out the cardamom juice using a fine sieve. Then make a fine puree and add a little fresh lemon juice to it. Freeze it till hard consistency and then churn with ice cream churn. Serve it in a palm leaf with cardamom powder sprinkled on top.

About two pounds of fruit will be perfect for making a quart of Sorbet - that comes out to about five cups of chopped fruit. A little more or less is fine; that is a basic formula, not an exact science. Sorbet really is as simple as that. You can celebrate s single fruit in all its glory or use any combination of fruit your little heart desires. 

 

Apple trees are cultivated worldwide and are the most widely grown species in the genus Malus. However, an apple tree normally requires a cooler climate and is grown in Kashmir Valley and upper echelons of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Himalayan region.
