Constable raped a 17-year-old girl in Bengaluru

The police informed that a Bengaluru-based city police constable has been arrested for raping a minor girl. The arrested constable is identified as Pavan Dyavannanavar, a 25-year-old from Belagavi, and was attached to the Govindanagra police station.

According to the west division, the constable saw the minor girl sitting distraught at a park in Vijayanagar in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The girl was supposed to meet a friend she met online and as per the reports the friend resides in Chamrajnagar, a neighbouring district of Bengaluru. A senior investigator on the case said, “We understand that she left home impulsively and didn’t have enough money. It was at this point that the constable found her”. After meeting the girl, the constable offered to help her and take her to his house where he then raped her. He later gave the girl Rs 500 and sent her away the very next day. The minor then again left for Chamarajanagar district to meet her friend.

The friend’s parents upon learning that the girl is a minor and left her house without her parent's permission informed the police. Meanwhile, the parents of the girl had also lodged a missing complaint with K P Agrahara police station in Bengaluru.

Police brought back the girl from Chamaranjan to Bengaluru. A senior officer involved in the case said, “Being a minor, she was taken to the Child Welfare Committee. The officials there offered counselling to the girl. It was during the counselling session that she revealed about the sexual assault by the constable after which Pavan was arrested”. The officer added, “Apart from the case under investigation there will be a departmental enquiry based on which further departmental action will be taken”.
