The man arrived from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and took a train to Delhi…

The directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) nabbed a man with 16kg heroin with a market value of Rs 112 crore at the international market from Bengaluru central railway station, the officials reported. The man was nabbed on Friday as per the sources. DRI officials informed that the suspect concealed the drugs in a false cavity inside his suitcase.

The man arrived in Bengaluru from Addis Ababa in Ethiopia, after which he boarded a train to reach Delhi and was later intercepted by DRI officials, according to a statement from the DRI officials. The officials also added that the man had managed to evade checks and customs when he landed at Bengaluru airport from Ethiopia.

The officials identified the suspect as a 35-year-old man hailing from Tamil Nadu. The accused man had shifted bases between Karnataka and Kerala border. He had even customised his suitcase creating a false cavity to store and smuggle drugs across the borders. The Heroin was packed separately in two pouches of 8kg and concealed in the cavities of his suitcase.

Officials informed that the man had smuggled drugs from Ethiopia and was on his way to Delhi to sell them.

The Tamil Nadu man had gone away on a business visa to Ethiopia Addis Ababa for a week, where he had met with a gang. The gang assigned the accused to handover a trolley bag to a person soon after landing at the Delhi railway station. The accused man was also provided with a phone number to call as soon as he reaches the Delhi railway station. He was offered a huge sum of money to carry out the job as well as his tickets included for the whole trip.

Sources have said that this is probably the biggest seizure made by the DRI unit of Bengaluru.
