Bharatiya Kisan Union Postpones Protest

As Wrestlers Meet Amit Shah…

A protest planned by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and other khap leaders to support the wrestlers who are fighting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Singh has been postponed for now.

On June 9, the protest was scheduled to take place at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

It was called off after the protesting wrestlers met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on June 3, said BKU leader Rakesh Tikait.

"Now, the protest will happen depending upon the result of the talks between the wrestlers and the government," he added.

"Since the protest was supposed to be held to support the wrestlers, the next date will be announced depending on the next course of action by the protesting wrestlers," he added.

Earlier, Rakesh Tikait gave a deadline to the Central government of June 9 to arrest Brij Bhushan Singh, who is in the eye of the storm over sexual harassment allegations by women grapplers.

"If the government will not meet the wrestlers' demands, we will go to Jantar Mantar with them on June 9 and hold panchayats across the country," he had said.
