Bhatinda firing case solved, shooting motivated by personal animosity

Punjab Police arrested the culprit…

Punjab Police officials arrested a soldier on Sunday from the Bathinda Military Station in connection with the recent firing incident in which four army troops were slain in their sleep.

The culprit, Army gunner Mohan Desai, admitted to the incident and claimed he shot his colleagues over personal disagreements. The four jawans have been identified as Sagar, Kamlesh, Santosh, and Yogesh and belonged to an artillery unit of the army.

"After extensive questioning, we discovered that one weapon was stolen and used to kill the jawans."

Later, one member of the Artillery unit was apprehended, and during interrogation, he confessed to taking an INSAS gun and killing four of his colleagues the Police.

Initial investigations show that this was motivated by personal animosity, said Senior Superintendent of Police Bathinda Gulneet Khurana on Sunday

On Wednesday, four Indian Army jawans were killed in an early-morning gunfire incident inside the Bathinda Military Station in Punjab.

The Punjab Police filed an FIR against two unidentified individuals who were reportedly dressed in white kurta pajamas and carrying a gun and an axe at the time of the shooting.

The spectacular murder on April 12 prompted concerns about the state's security arrangements, especially since it occurred amid allegations of reprisal for the major crackdown on separatist Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh and his organization 'Waris Punjab Se'.

However, Sunday’s arrest shows that the sad tragedy had nothing to do with the Khalistani commander.

An INSAS assault rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition, considered to be the weapon used in the event, went missing for two days after the shooting.

They were later discovered by the Army, who later thought that certain servicemen were responsible for the tragedy.
