Biden urged not to accept India and South African proposal at WTO on COVID-19

US President Joe Biden on Friday urged four top Republican lawmakers not to accept the proposals presented by India and South Africa to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the Covid-19 vaccine.


Four top Republican lawmakers on Friday urged Marika President Joe Biden not to accept the proposals presented by India and South Africa to the World Trade Organization (WTO) on the Covid-19 vaccine. MPs have written this letter urging this. MPs Mike Lee, Tom Cotton, Joni Ernst and Todd Young have asked Biden to reject the WTO proposal. In fact, India and South Africa have united to waive the patent rights regarding the COVID-19 vaccine so that its supply can be improved. The lawmakers said in a letter to Biden that "a proposal is being made in the WTO on behalf of India, South Africa and other countries to waive all intellectual property rights relating to Covid-19".

In this sequence, WHO chief Tedros Adhanam Ghebreyes also said that countries with the potential to develop vaccines should start waiving intellectual property rights provided in special emergency provisions from the World Trade Organization. He also said that the WHO would soon hold a meeting with industry representatives to eliminate bottlenecks and bottlenecks in production.
