Uttarakhand: On Monday, Police said, a labourer from Bihar was tonsured, his face was blackened and beaten up by people for allegedly raping a girl of a different community in Tehri district.
The accused Dil Jafar, aged 23 years old, is from the Kishanganj district of Bihar.
He was arrested on Sunday and sent to judicial custody for 14 days (two weeks), Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar said.
The incident created a sense of insecurity among other migrant labourers as well.
Bhullar, however, dismissed reports of migrant labourers being chased out of the village and adjoining areas.
The situation is under control now, he said.
Adding to this, patrolling has been intensified in the area and no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
