Bihar Mysteries: Bridge and Train Engine Swipe

Followed by Vanishing Pond

In Bihar's Darbhanga district, a pond went missing, and in its place, someone built a hut, leaving the locals puzzled.

The unexpected hut raised concerns, prompting the residents to alert the police. However, the alleged land mafia, accused of filling the pond to seize the land, had already fled before the authorities arrived.

Residents indicate that the pond, once publicly owned and maintained for activities like fishing, became a target for the mafia due to escalating land prices in Darbhanga.

Despite locals reporting the pond-filling to authorities, temporary halts and seizures occurred. However, the mafia persisted, conducting the leveling work covertly during the night until the pond disappeared entirely.

Amit Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), mentioned, "People claim the pond was filled with soil in just 10-15 days, with work carried out exclusively at night. Officials had visited the site earlier, seizing some items."

Bihar has made headlines for some of the most unimaginable thefts carried out by humans, grabbing attention with their bizarre nature.

In a notable incident in November 2022, Bihar made news as thieves meticulously stole an entire diesel engine, piece by piece, from a railway yard in Begusarai. The perpetrators dug a tunnel to access the yard, initiating the theft by taking parts and eventually making off with the entire engine, which had originally been brought in for repairs, as reported by the police.

In an earlier incident that year, a staggering 60-foot bridge vanished in Rohtas district. Eight individuals, including a government officer, were apprehended, and 247 kg of iron channels were recovered from the culprits. The thieves employed JCBs and gas cutters to dismantle the bridge, making it disappear within a mere three days.
