BJP accused congress of ‘demeaning’ Murmu

Irani charged congress under its president Sonia Gandhi of targeting women...

The BJP on Thursday accused the congress of repeatedly targeting women and ‘demeaning’ President Murmu. BJP also demanded congress to apologise after its leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury called her “rashtrapatni”. Union Minister Smriti Irani said that Chowdhury used the said term knowing very well that it demeans the president Murmu and her office. She condemned the usage of the term as against India’s values too. Speaking to the reporters she said, congress should apologise to the President and the whole country for demeaning someone like that.

She said to the reporters, “A tribal woman from a poor family who created history is being continuously demeaned by Congress”.

Adhir Chowdhury who is the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha used the remark while addressing the media during his party’s protests over a host of issues. Smriti Irani alleged that Congress has been targeting her “maliciously” for years ever since the BJP-led NDA named Murmu as its presidential candidate. She said Murmu was called a “puppet” and a “symbol of evil” by the congress leaders. Smriti Irani also accused Sonia Gandhi of targeting women repeatedly over the years.

The BJP said that the attacks do not seem to stop even after her fair and square election to the highest constitutional office of the country. She said it’s an insult to the highest constitutional position if they demean Murmu like that. Chowdhury’s comments are also demeaning to the rich tribal legacy that President Mumru represents and to the poor who are rising from the hardships through hard work.
