BJP MP Ram Swaroop Sharma found dead at Delhi residence

Ram Swaroop Sharma was a two-time MP who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mandi parliamentary constituency in 2014 and 2019.


BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Ram Swaroop Sharma was found dead at his residence in Delhi on Wednesday, police said. Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal said that Mr Sharma's body was found hanging from a ceiling fan. Mr Sharma was allegedly suffering from severe depression and was under treatment for the last six months, reported The Tribune. Reportedly, there was no one at his Delhi residence as his wife had gone for the Char Dhaam pilgrimage.

Police officials said that the personal assistant of Mr Sharma alerted the police control room after the 62-year-old parliamentarian did not respond to his call. A police team was sent to his residence immediately who forced open the door and found Mr Sharma hanging from a ceiling fan. Mr Sharma was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide, the police said. However, they added that no suicide note was found from the spot. Announcing the death of Mr Sharma, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 1 pm. Mr Sharma was a two-time MP who was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mandi parliamentary constituency in 2014 and 2019.
