BJP’s Mammoth Rise In GHMC Polls Leaves KCR In Amaze

GHMC polls sees huge rise in BJP, leaves KCR in shock

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) came out as the largest party in the General Hyderabad Municipality Ejections (GHMC) On Friday, however BJP’s enormous increase in vote share  grabbed headline.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now taken the second position in a close fight with Asaddudin’s AIMIM after an aggressive campaign for a local election. This time the TRS won 55 seats of the 150 wards at the GHMC elections. The BJP scored 48 wards and the AIMIM secured 44 wards with the Congress winning only two wards. The counting of votes for the Neredmet ward was stopped as per the order of the high court. In the last GHMC elections the TRS scored 99 seats, AIMIM scored 44 seats and the BJP scored only 4 seats.

This year the TRS saw a drop by 40% in its tally of votes as compared to the 2016 GHMC polls. These results mark a leap for the BJP’s preparation for the 2023 Telengana elections which is going to be a straight fight between the TRS and the BJP.

KT Rama Rao the minister of Telangana said “The result is not what we expected. We fell short by 20-25 seats than our expectations. 10-12 seats saw a margin of less than 200 votes. There is nothing to be disappointed we will be the single largest party.”

JP Nadda the BJP President said “The people of Hyderabad have made it clear what will be the results of Telangana assembly elections (2023). I can say with confidence that people of Telangana have decided to say goodbye to the corrupt KCR government.”

Most of the contesting parties conducted a deeply polarizing campaign where they focused more on Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and Hyderabad's name while ignoring basic civic amenities.

The BJP got all its national leaders from Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Yogi Adityanath, Prakash Javadekar and Smriti Irani in the GHMC polls hoping to convince the people of Hyderabad that they need a change and if not now then in the 2023 assembly polls.

In April 2007 GHMC was formed by merging 8 gram panchayats and 12 municipalities with the Municipal Corporations Of Hyderabad (MCH).
