"Boats are deployed to remove the toxic foams from the Yamuna," says: Delhi Govt.

After the Chhath dispute, the Delhi govt. has deployed 15 boats to clean the toxic foams.

New Delhi: The Kejriwal Govt. has finally deployed boats to move the toxic foam formed in the Yamuna river in a face-saving exercise amid severe criticism after Chhath Puja devotees were seen taking a dip in the river.

According to the official of Delhi Govt."Delhi government has deployed 15 boats to remove the foam that is forming in the Yamuna due to increasing pollution."

"On the third day of the Purvanchali festival, boats are deployed to clean the toxic foams from the Yamuna," said Sandhya Arghya.

He further said that the Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Revenue Department and Delhi Pollution Control Committee have taken this decision jointly.

Officials said the idea entailed by tying a strong cloth between two boats, the foam will be brought out to the shore.

It was a combined decision of the Delhi Govt. and environmentalists to overcome the situation.

River Yamuna is facing a hazardous increase in ammonia and high phosphate elements due to the dispersal of toxic substances like detergents from industries. Chlorine helps in cleansing the water pollutants but due to the high level of ammonia, with will react to more hazardous solutions which are toxic for living organisms.

According to social activist Varun Gulati,  said that the foam is a result of chemical waste used to dye denim being dumped by illegal jeans-making units set up close to the river banks.

"Delhi Govt. has assigned almost 800 ghats for the devotees to perform the Chhath Puja. Earlier, there were only 70-80 ghats," said Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.

However, the oppositions have allegedly blamed the Delhi Govt. for not maintaining the condition of the River Yamuna.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari slammed over CM Kejriwal and said, "What have you done to Delhi? These today’s pictures of the Yamuna river are quite worrying and these pictures tell why the Chief Minister of Delhi stopped the festival of Purvanchalis’ faith from celebrating Chhath Puja on the banks of river Yamuna, as it would have exposed the works done by AAP on Yamuna cleaning."
