Body of nine year old girl found, wrapped in a cloth

Girl went missing last Saturday...

Nine year old girl who went missing last Saturday after going out to play, police found her body in a drain near her house on Tuesday near Solai Nagar in Pondicherry.

The body was wrapped in a cloth inside a drain located near Ambedkar Nagar, a few meters away from her house. Both her hands and feet had been tied.

The Muthialpet police have arrested two people, including a 59 year old and 19 year old, in connection with the girl’s death and are carrying out further investigation.

The police said the Class 5 student of a government primary school didn’t return after leaving her home on Saturday. As her parents and neighbors could not find her after hours looking for her, they lodged a complaint at the Muthialpet police station on Saturday evening.

Special teams were formed to look for the girl and after analyzing several CCTV footage around the area, the police confirmed she hadn’t gone out of the town. Alleging inaction by the police, the girl’s family and neighbors staged a road blockade on Monday leading to tension in the town.

Hundreds of residents soon gathered near the tower clock leading to a slight scuffle

According to the reports, the family of the victim said on Tuesday the police did not make any efforts to identify the body despite their complaint four days ago. The protesters claimed their children were scared because of the crime and refused to go to school. They urged the police to initiate stringent punishment against the perpetrators and staged protests.

The body of the girl was later taken to the JIPMER for post-mortem examination.
