Bomb Blast In Pakistan's Peshawar Mosque, 56 Dead

200 injured During the blast!


On Friday, a tragic incident took place in Pakistan's Peshawar Mosque where around 56 people have been reported dead while 200 others were injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a crowded Shia mosque during congregation in northwest Pakistan's Peshawar. This is one of the deadliest attacks in the restive province, bordering Afghanistan.

 

According to the information, The blast took place at an Imambargah which is located near the Qissa Khwani Bazaar area of Peshawar when the worshippers were offering Friday prayers.

 

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the blast in Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa which borders Afghanistan. However, the Islamic State and sectarian militant groups have claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks targeting Shias in the past.

 

Muhammad Asim Khan, a spokesman for Peshawar’s Lady Reading Hospital, said the death toll had climbed to 56, the deadliest since a July 2018 blast, claimed by the local chapter of the Islamic State group, killed 149 people at an election rally. He said 50 of the 194 wounded were in “critical condition”.

 

Muhammad Ali Saif, a spokesman for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, told AFP that the blast was a “suicide attack” and numerous witnesses recounted the moment of detonation.

 

According to the statement given by the a spokesman for Prime Minister Imran Khan’s office said he “strongly condemned” the attack.

 

As per the information given by the Peshawar police chief Muhammad Ijaz Khan told AFP two attackers were involved. He said two police officers were shot at the entrance of the mosque. “One policeman died on the spot while the other was critically injured."
