Bombay Rotary Club to create ‘Miyawaki-style urban forest’ at CPRA Greens

In the plantation drive, 1,000 samplings will be planted to help create a "Miyawaki-style urban forest."

A plantation drive will be conducted by the Rotary Club of Bombay (RCB) at CPRA Greens, a garden which is owned by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and managed by the Cuffe Parade Residents' Association (CPRA).

In the plantation drive, 1,000 samplings will be planted to help create “a Miyawaki-style urban forest." BMC Deputy Commissioner Vijay Balamwar, at the inauguration ceremony, highly praised the efforts and asked other organizations too, to conduct similar drives to increase greenery in Mumbai.

The drive will bring in more birds, butterflies, bees, and oxygen for residents in the urban forest and “a Nakshatra Garden,”  CPRA president Aditi Jain said. RCB president Shernaz Vakil also talked about the community-oriented efforts of the Club and for doing best for the city and its environment.

In the memory of Seetha Narayan and the late Kausalya Srinivasan, the urban forest was started. In addition, the Miyawaki method is named after Japanese botanist Akira Miyawali, who turned small plots of land into tiny forests by planting trees close to each other. Whereas, a Nakshatra Garden is the one which combines astrology, ayurveda, botany, and landscaping.
