Builder arrested for cheating 64 guillible home buyers

Developer tuned Rs 67.10Lakh by offering them flats at cheap rates


Mumbai police arrested a 53-year-old builder who allegedly cheated the buyers by offering them flats at cheap prices and tune the buyers of Rs 67.10 Lakh, according to the police on Thursday. The accused is identified as Santosh Kumar Jaiprakash Singh, who after taking the booking amount, fled and shut down his Panvel booking office.

He allegedly offered flats and had opened a booking office for a project called Krishna complex at Telegaon in Khalapur. The builder had taken booking amount for the same between 2013 and 2015 and since then he was at large, said Pavin Patil, deputy commissioner of police, crime branch of Navi Mumbai.

When the buyers tried to reach him, he was not available. “Singh has not started any construction work at the said the plot in Khalapur and did not responded to buyers as well,” a police official said. While the DCP said, based on evidences and information, Singh was arrested from Panvel on Tuesday and has been remanded to police custody till November 6.

An FIR was registered against the accused builder under sections 420 (cheating) of the IPC and relevant provisions of the Maharashtra Ownership Flats (Regulation of the Promotion of Construction, Sale, Management and Transfer) Act (MOFA) of 1963.

Bipin Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Navi Mumbai have appealed to home buyers who have booked flats in the Krishna Complex project to get in touch with the police department.
