Bus mowed down 2 Kanwar Yatris, FIR registered

The Yatra began on 14 July after being suspended for 2 years because of Covid


As per the FIR registered by Police, A roadways bus mowed down two Kanwar Yatris to death after crushing their motorcycle on National Highway 9 in Nilikehri village in Amroha district.  The incident took place on Monday morning.

 

The two Kanwar Yatris mowed to demise were identified as Rahul a 17-year-old boy and Gaurav a 23-year-old man, according to the Police. Both yatris belonged to the Moradabad district and were a part of the Kanwariyas this year.  The two men were on their way from collecting water from Brajghat in Garhmukteshwar as the incident happened, the Police reported. 

 

The police said the other Kanwariyas accompanying the deceased claimed that the bus driver had been driving on the wrong side of the road during the incident. Agitated by the incident that had happened the group of Kanwariyas smashed the window of the bus and temporarily blocked the highway.

 

 A senior officer intervened and stopped the Kanwariyas protest.  Chandra Prakash Shukla the additional superintendent of the Amroha Police said, “The two were rushed to the hospital where they succumbed during treatment. The blockade was cleared after we assured he protesting Kanwariyas that action would be taken against the bus driver”.  Shukla also added, “He was hired by the Uttar Pradesh State Regional Transport Corporation from a private agency. He has not been arrested yet but efforts are on to nab him”. 

 

Amroha police lodged an FIR against the driver and have initiated an investigation.  The Police informed, “The bodies were sent for a post mortem examination and were later handed over to the family members”. 

 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also gave his condolences on twitter and expressed immense grief over the accident.
