Business Suspension Letter On TRP Scam Given At RS By MP Priyanka Chaturvedi

MP Priyanka Chaturvedi gives business suspension letter at RS on TRP scam

Priyanka Chaturvedi the Member of Parliament (MP) of Shiv Sena, under rule 267 gave a suspension of business notice on Monday to discuss an urgent issue that came up during the investigation of the Television Rating Point (TRP) scam.

“In a WhatsApp chats records of the Editor-in-Chief of a news channel and former CEO of Rating agency shared extremely sensitive classified military information related to national security which could have been known only to the members of the cabinet committee on security and it is a clear violation of the National Security Ac,” the Shiv Sena MP stated.

In October 2020, the Mumbai Police had busted the TRP rating scam alleging that TV news channels had paid viewers to orchestrate viewership ratings. MP Chaturvedi had earlier asked Prakash Javadekar, the minister of information and broadcasting to take urgent measures to ensure transparency in the TRP systems. The rule 267 of the “Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States” clearly suggests that “Any member, may with the consent of the Chairman, move that any rule may be suspended in its application to a motion related to the business before the council of that day and if the motion is carried, the rule is question shall be suspended for the time being.”
