Businessman Raj Kundra arrested in case of alleged creation of porn films

The police said that they have certain Whatsapp chats that are "key evidence" of his involvement in the case.

Businessman and husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, was arrested on Monday by the Mumbai police in a case of allegedly creating pornographic films and publishing them through some apps, a senior official said. Mr Kundra was booked under some relevant sections of the IPC, Information Technology (IT) Act and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and was arrested by the Crime Branch as he appeared to be the "key conspirator of the case," the official said, reported The Hindu Business Line.

Reportedly, a woman filed an FIR against the 45-year-old on February 4 at the Malwani police station in suburban Mumbai. The police said that they have certain Whatsapp chats that are "key evidence" of his involvement in the case. However, they added that they are investigating the matter.

Mr Kundra has denied all allegations and sought anticipatory bail. Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has arrested his aide Ryan Thorpe and eight others in the case so far, reported NDTV. The porn films were allegedly shot in India, transferred to the UK via WeTransfer and released on paid mobile apps, according to NDTV. The police said the films were shot in houses and hotels rented in Mumbai and models were allegedly promised film offers and forced to shoot porn.
