By-elections to 3 Lok Sabha, 30 Assembly constituencies on October 30, says EC

The EC has decided to conduct bypolls on Oct 30 so that the vacant seats can be filled.


The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced that by-elections to three Lok Sabha seats and 30 Assembly constituencies are scheduled to be held on October 30 and the counting of votes will take place on November 2.

The EC said in a statement that the decision has been taken after reviewing all kinds of situations related to pandemic, flood, and festivals. The bypolls will be held to "fill vacancies in three Parliamentary Constituencies of Union Territory of Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh and 30 vacancies in Assembly constituencies of various states."

The 30 assembly seats that are to be filled by contesting by-elections are 1 each in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram, Haryana, Maharashtra and Nagaland, 2 each in Rajasthan, Bihar and Karnataka, 3 each in Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Meghalaya, 4 in West Bengal and 5 in Assam.
