Canadian PM comments on farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest

Canadian PM shows solidarity with Protesting Farmers

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, 48, is the first world leader to be commenting on the farmers’ ongoing protest in the capital city of Delhi. At an online event to mark the 551st birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Mr Trudeau said “The news coming out of India about the protest by farmers. The situation is concerning and we all are very worried about family and friends. Let me remind you Canada will always be there to defend the right of peaceful protest.”

For the sixth straight day in the outskirts of Delhi thousands of farmers from various states including the state of Punjab are camped out. The farmers were initially challenged with water cannons, tear gas and police barricades in the winter’s cold as they tried to reach the national capital.

The World Sikh Organization’s Canadian leader said “We believe in the importance of dialogue and that’s why, we have reached out to multiple means, directly to the India authorities to highlight our concerns. This is a moment for all us to pull together.”

The central government in order to find a solution for the massive protests will today hold talks with the farmers. The government plans to guarantee the farmers on MSP’s and government markets or mandis.
