Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday dropped Congress from his Twitter bio. Some time before dropping the party's name, he had clarified in an interview with NDTV that he will not join the BJP but will soon resign from the party. A week ago, he had resigned from the post of chief minister saying that he was time and again humiliated by the party.

Amarinder Singh's Twitter bio read, "Army Veteran. Former Chief Minister of Punjab. Continuing to Serve the State (sic)." Amarinder met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday but soon clarified the rising speculation of him joining the BJP by taking a dig at Navjot Singh Sidhu. He clarified that he is not a person who takes split-second decisions and he will not join the BJP.

Navjot Singh resigned from the post of Punjab Congress chief but said that he will continue to serve the party. After months of dispute between him and Captain Amarinder Singh, Mr Sidhu was appointed the state party chief on July 23. Later, Amarinder Singh resigned from the post of Chief Minister complaining of repeated "humiliation" by the party.
