Cash Given To Voters At Polling Station In Manipur

First phase of voting in Manipur was held on Monday


The Election Commission's officials, while monitoring polling in Manipur by live CCTV footage, found that cash was being distributed at a polling station in Keirao constituency.

The Election Commission officials have called the returning officer and police in-charge and asked them to arrest the man who can be seen with cash in CCTV footage from the polling station.

 

The first phase of polling in the two-phase Manipur election was underway on Monday. A total of 173 candidates are in the fray across 38 seats in the first phase of Manipur elections.

 

The Manipur Assembly election is being held in two phases on February 28 and March 5. The vote count will be done on March 10.

 

In the 2017 Manipur Assembly election, the BJP allied with three regional parties which are National People's Party, Naga People's Front and Lok Janshakti Party to form the government.

 

Though the Congress was the single-largest party with 28 seats, the BJP and its allies managed to reach the majority of 31 seats.

 

Voting for the first phase of Manipur Assembly polls began at 7 am. A total of 173 candidates are in the fray across 38 seats in the first phase of Manipur elections.

 

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh recorded a voter total of around 55 per cent during the fifth phase of assembly elections on Sunday.

 

Counting of votes for the assembly elections will be on March 10.
