Center not in favour of giving extra chance to UPSC aspirants

No spare chance for last UPSC attempter who missed due to the pandemic says center.

On Friday the Supreme Court was informed by the Center that it was not in favor of giving another chance to all those aspirants who missed their last attempts in the 2020 UPSC Civil Service examination due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. SV Raju who is the Additional Solicitor General who appeared for the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) told the top court “We are not ready to give one more chance. Last night I received instruction that we are not agreeable.” The SC asked him to file an affidavit and said that the case will now be heard on Monday.

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and the Central government  on September 30 was directed by the SC to consider granting an extra chance to all those candidates who were in last attempts in Civil Service exams 2020 and could not appear due to the pandemic. The court also proposed a corresponding extension of the upper-age limit of those candidates. The DoPT had informed the court on October 26 that the issue of granting an extra attempt to the candidates who were on their last chances was still under consideration of the responsible authorities.

ASG, SV Raju on January 11 informed a bench which was headed by Justice AM Khanwilkar that the government and the UPSC authorities are considering the proposal actively, to give one more attempt chance to the candidates who were affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
