Central Delhi second most rain-Deficient district in India: IMD

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Central Delhi has recorded 8.5 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon and is the second most rain deficient district in the country.


According to the data, rain deficit in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir is the largest in the country it has recorded 5mm precipitation against a normal of 70.6 mm a shortfall of 93%  East Delhi has received 19.2 mm rainfall against the normal of the 55.2 mm of 65% shortfall. North Delhi has got 20.7 mm rainfall,  63% less than normal and South Delhi has got 22.2 mm 60% less than normal. Southwest and New Delhi have recorded 29.6 mm and 27.7 mm rainfall 52% less than normal.

According to the statement of the India Meteorological Department(IMD) prevailing meteorological condition, large-scale atmospheric features and the forecast wind pattern by dynamical model suggests that no favourable conditions are likely to develop for the advance of Southwest monsoon in the remaining parts of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab during the next 6 to 7 days. It also said that the northern limit of Southwest monsoon continues to pass to Barmer, Bhilwara, Dholpur, Aligarh, Meerut, Ambala and Amritsar.

Whereas, Earlier the meteorological office has said that the wind system may reach Delhi by June 15 which could have been 12 days early. However, Westerly winds have been blocking its advancement into Delhi and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. Normally the monsoon reaches Delhi by 27 June and covers the entire country by July 8. Last year the wind system reached on 25th June and covered the entire Delhi by June 29.
