Central railway to introduce ‘Restaurant on Wheels’

At Akurdi, Chinchwad, Miraj and Baramati Stations…


The Central Railway is planning to introduce four more restaurants on wheels at Akurdi, Chinchwad, Miraj and Baramati Stations.


As per the information, the Central Railway had opened a ‘restaurant on wheels’ at CSMT Mumbai and Nagpur Stations under the non-fare revenue scheme. 


On the success of the project, the Central Railway decided to start restaurants on wheels at four more stations. It has also identified seven other locations to set up similar projects in Central Railway.


As per the information, A restaurant on wheels is a modified coach mounted on rails, a fine-dining place offering a unique experience for diners and accommodating more than 40 patrons inside the coach with tables. 


Whereas the interior of the restaurant has been decorated in such a way that diners can enjoy the experience of dining in a rail-themed setting. 


According to the information, Restaurants on wheels at CSMT and Nagpur have become landmark eateries in the area with approximately 1,25,000 visitors and 1,50,000 visitors respectively, who have enjoyed the place and relished eating at the restaurants from its opening till date.


This restaurant on wheels theme is an example of passenger-friendly initiatives combined with novel ideas for revenue generation.


Meanwhile, the central railway has identified seven more locations, including Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Kalyan, Lonavala, Neral, Igatpuri, Dadar and Matheran
