Chandrayaan-3 Reaches Closer To Moon

This mission aims to make scientific discoveries...

On Monday, 14 August 2023, India's Chandrayaan-3 is all prepared to make a remarkable move in its journey towards the Moon's surface.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has said that the spacecraft will lower its orbit around the Moon on August 14 between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm.

This maneuver will bring the spacecraft closer to the Moon's surface, lower than 1,437 km.

Launched from Sriharikota's Satish Dhawan Space Center on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 has been progressing toward its goal of conducting a successful soft landing on the Moon.

The spacecraft is currently about 1,437 kilometers away from the Moon, and this upcoming operation will bring it significantly closer.

The procedures leading up to the soft landing are carefully planned.

They consist of three stages — Earth orbit maneuvers, Trans-lunar injection, and Lunar orbit maneuvers.

Once these stages have been completed, the lander separates from the propulsion module and enters an orbit closer to the moon, initiating the process of soft landing.

Chandrayaan-3's mission is not just a demonstration of India's growing technical capabilities in space exploration but also aims to make significant scientific discoveries.

The spacecraft is set to land near the Moon's little-explored south-polar region, an area believed to hold potential for new findings and research.

Data from the Chandrayaan-2 has been thoroughly analyzed to make a successful landing this time.
