Char Dham Yatra temporarily suspended in Uttarakhand due to heavy rainfall

Pilgrims who arrived in Haridwar and Rishikesh have been asked not to proceed further due to incessant rainfall.


Heavy rainfall has been witnessed in several states, whereas few states have been witnessing waterlogging and flood-like issues. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand is also witnessing heavy rains and the Met department issued a red alert in the state on Monday. 

The Uttarakhand Government on Monday temporarily suspended the ongoing Char Dham Yatra in the state due to heavy rainfall. As per the information, pilgrims who arrived in Haridwar and Rishikesh have been asked not to proceed further due to incessant rainfall whereas the vehicular movement has been slowed down in the state.

According to NK Joshi, Chamoli district disaster management officer, "Kedarnath and Badrinath bound pilgrims have also been requested not to proceed further till the weather clears up. Whereas most of the pilgrims on the way to Badrinath are staying in Joshimath and Chamoli."

Meanwhile, all schools and educational institutions have been closed till Monday. Whereas adventurous activities such as trekking, Mountaineering, camping in high altitude areas have been banned until further orders.
