Chemical Leak In Surat leads 5 Death, 20 Hospitalized

Incident took place in GIDC area of Gujarat


On Thursday, an unknown event took place near the GIDC area of Gujarat where five people were killed during the gas leak and 20 have been injured due to the incident in a chemical leak from a tanker. 



According to the statement given by Basant Pareek, in charge chief fire officer of Surat Municipal corporation (SMC) said, "At least five workers have died at a hospital, where some 25 of them were rushed as they fell unconscious after inhaling toxic fumes coming out of a chemical tanker parked near the factory in Sachin GIDC area."

 

Further, he also mentioned, the fired department which received, a call regarding the incident around 4:25am managed to close the valve to arrest the leakage of fumes.



According to the information, all the injured people were immediately taken to the Surat civil hospital for treatment. The information mentions that the workers were sleeping inside the factory during the time of the incident. The incident reportedly happened in the Vishwaprem Dyeing and Printing Mill and the deceased are said to be five workers of the mill who suffocated to death due to the poisonous gas leak.



As per reports, the chemical leak incident happened due to the pouring of poisonous gas into the drain. Administration teams and police officials have reached the spot and rescue work is currently underway.
