The 45-year-old school principal of a private school in Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district has been arrested by the police for allegedly molesting two minor girls from his school, an official informed. The principal was arrested on Sunday as per the sources.

The Kotwali Station House officer Prakash Rathore informed that the two students from grades 5 and grade 7 upon reaching their houses told their parents about how the principal had molested them in his office chambers. The parents later lodged a complaint at the police station. Consequently, the police had arrested the principal on Sunday, the cited officer told.

The principal has been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of children from sexual offences (POSCO) act, the official informed.

The POSCO Act (protection of children from sexual offences) was introduced in 2012 under which, “an aggravated penetrative sexual assault of children” has the same consequences as an adult’s assault.

And “child” means anyone under the age of eighteen, the act also considers assault from a “domestic relationship” and shall have severe consequences. The legislation was introduced to protect children from all types of sexual assault.

Coming back to the case, the Kotwali station’s House officer Prakash Rathore also informed that as the case opened the school owner also stepped forward to complain about the parents. The owner of the school complained that some of the parents had earlier allegedly thrashed him and was beaten up as the case of molestation came into light.

For the molestation case, an investigation is underway as per the official Prakash Rathore of the Kotwali police station.
