Chinese Soldier Detained In LAC, Ladakh

Indo Chinese relations

On Friday a Chinese soldier was detained on the Indian side of the Line Of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh and the security personnel from India took him in custody. According to the laid down procedures and circumstances under which he crossed the LAC the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldier is being dealt with and is under investigation.

As the Chinese soldiers have started to live across the LAC since October last year. A PLA soldier in that month who was identified as Wang Ya Long was caught in the eastern Ladakh region by the Indian army in the Demchok sector. He was shortly deported back to his country by the Indian Army. Since a friction flared up last year due to unprecedented mobilization and forward concentration by the Chinese soldiers, the troops from both sides have been deployed at the LAC.

In June 2020 the tensions between the two neighboring nations peaked and left 20 Indian soldiers dead and an unspecified number of Chinese casualties during the clash. Both nations since March have been moving tens of thousands of troops and weapons to the high altitude regions. To ease the tensions several rounds of talks were held but it failed significantly. The two nations decided to continue their work towards ensuring complete fall back of troops in all clash points of the LAC in the eastern Ladakh region at the ‘earliest.’ Several rounds of military and diplomatic talks have occurred but no breakthrough has been achieved so far.
