Clashes at Singhu border after unidentified goons barge protest site

A group of around 200 people who claimed to be locals forced themselves into the protest site and pelted stones and vandalized the tents of the protesters.

A group of around 200 people forced themselves into the protest site on Friday and threw stones, vandalized the tents that were erected by the farmers at Delhi-Haryana border at Singhu which is the epicenter of protests since the last two months, NDTV reported. Reportedly, both sides pelted stones at each other and two police personnel got injured in the clashes. Delhi Police Station House Office (Alipur) Pradeep Paliwal was injured in the clashes after a man attacked him with a sword, an official said. A man can be seen holding a sword in the visuals from the site. In order to control the violence, police used tear gas shells and batons.

“They are not locals, but hired goons,” said 21-year-old Harkirat Mann Beniwal from Punjab’s Khana district. “They were throwing stones, petrol bombs at us. They attempted to burn down our trolleys also. We are here to resist them. We won’t leave the place.” The group claimed that they were locals and demanded the agitating farmers to vacate the spot.

However, it is still unclear how the group managed to barge into the protest site even though the police and security personnel were heavily deployed there. It is the same place where even journalists and water tankers were not allowed to enter, reported by the channel. The other two protest sites near the borders of Delhi- Tikri and Ghazipur- have also been deployed with heavy security.
