Cold wave intensifies in North India; temperature dips to zero degree in parts of Haryana, Rajasthan

A western disturbance led to "scattered to fairly widespread" snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).


Due to a western disturbance cold wave has intensified in northern region of India. The temperature has dipped to zero degree in parts of Haryana and Rajasthan. Hisar and Narnaul  recorded zero and 0.3 degrees Celsius respectively while Amritsar recorded minimum temperature 0.4 degrees Celsius. Rajasthan's Churu registered 0.4 degrees and Bhilwara and Pilani recorded 0.9 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a western disturbance has led to "scattered to fairly widespread" snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. As per the press release issued by IMD, the dry spell shall remain in the plains of North India for about two more days. Isolated places of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will experience dense to very dense fog.

IMD said that Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The agency predicted that the temperature is likely to drop by a notch in the next two days in the northern region of India.
