Cold wave to grips Maharashtra

Expected to abate over the next 24 hours!

On Friday, Parts of Maharashtra shivered as cold wave conditions brought on by western disturbances gripped the state. However, they are expected to abate over the next 24 hours, the IMD says.

Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecast department at IMD Pune, said northerly winds are penetrating Maharashtra badly. But in the coming days, because of the presence of anticyclone in north west and adjacent central India, the wind over Maharashtra will turn into north-easterly, followed east north easterly and then to easterly parts.

Dr Kashyap said, “From January 29 onwards, the night time temperature will gradually rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming three to four days.”

Currently, Vidarbha is likely to experience cold wave conditions, especially over districts like Yavatmal, Nagpur, Buldhana and Gondia. There is a possibility of a cold day at isolated places.

The IMD’s extended rain forecast suggests that in the current week i.e. from January 28 to February 3, both day time and night time temperatures over all the meteorological subdivisions of the state will be a few notches below normal.

In Pune city and in the adjoining areas, the night time temperature on January 28 was recorded at 9.3 degrees Celsius. This will slip slightly on the night of January 29, before rising by 2-3 degrees over the upcoming days.

January 29: 9 degrees Celsius
January 30: 11 degrees Celsius
January 31: 12 degrees Celsius
February 1: 10 degrees Celsius
February 2: 12 degrees Celsius
February 3: 13 degrees Celsius

Temperature in the Day time will chart a gradual increase from January 29 to February 3, switching between 27.6 degrees Celsius to 29 degrees Celsius.
