Congress Presidential Election: Mallikarjun Kharge vs Shashi Tharoor

Today (Monday), the Congress presidential election is set to take place.  This will see a tight electoral contest between Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge for the top party post.


The face-off for the post of AICC chief after years of internal conflicts and pandemic-led delay to replace the interim chief Sonia Gandhi is significant as the party will get a non-Gandhi president in more than 24 years.


According to the information, Voting will take place at the AICC headquarters today at over 65 polling booths from 10 am to 4 pm. There will be two polling stations in Delhi - one at 24 Akbar Road, AICC headquarters and the other one at Delhi Pradesh Congress committee office. According to CEC members, there will be 36 polling stations and 67 booths in the election.


As per the information, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, former PM Dr Manmohan Singh and party's general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will cast their votes tomorrow around 12 noon at AICC headquarters, Delhi. 


For the first time, special QR coded ID cards have been distributed to the delegates by CEA. Those delegates who have the QR coded ID cards will be allowed to cast the vote. Congress has enrolled around 6 crore new members.

 

Congress data department head Pravin Chakravati told India Today TV that in the 140-year history of Congress, for the first time QR coded ID cards on the line of the Election Commission of India’s Voter’s ID card. Without this voting card, the delegates will not be allowed to cast their votes. The ID card is must to ensure transparency.
