Crackers prohibited in Delhi and N.C.R. region ,from 9 November midnight To November 30

National Green Tribunal (N.G.T) has prohibited firecrackers in Delhi, all districts under the National Capital Region and also in cities across the country with "poor" or worse air from November 9 to November 30. However the tribunal has allowed green crackers ( a less harmful substitute) for 2 hours in cities with better air quality index.

The blanket ban has been announced ahead of Diwali to prevent worsening of the air quality and is also being viewed as a precautionary measure to not worsen the ongoing covid 19 situation in the region.

The order will be applicable to more than 12 districts across four states that are a part of the NCR and also to "cities and towns where the average ambient air quality in November last year was "poor" or worse", observed the green tribunal.

The N.G.T order comes in the wake of many states like Rajasthan, Sikkim , West Bengal and Delhi already banning the use of fire crackers, in the current pandemic.

The order also directed the pollution control boards to regularly monitor the situation and compile data and reports on the respective websites.
