Crucial Dialogue Amid The BRICS Summit 2022

The 14th BRICS Summit -2022 started on Thursday and will be continuing till Friday


The Summit is being conducted via video link. Under the theme, “Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development”.

Being Chaired by China this year, the conference is being attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and leaders from Brazil and South Africa.

The Summit is scheduled in order to focus on intra-BRICS cooperation. These include counter-terrorism, commerce, health, traditional medicine, the environment, science, technology, innovation, agriculture, technical and vocational education and training, and MSMEs.

 

Prime Minister Modi prior to the Summit delivered a taped keynote speech at the BRICS Business Forum Opening Ceremony on Wednesday. While PM Modi largely “hailed cooperation” emphasizing on the importance of BRICS in the post-pandemic global economic recovery.

 

Others also discussed the situation in Ukraine and Afghanistan. “We support talks between Russia and Ukraine”. “We have also discussed our concerns over the humanitarian situation in and around Ukraine…” The statement said, adding that the grouping is willing to support the UN efforts for delivering humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

 

While Russian President Putin said that settling conflicts can be done only through a joint effort. “Dark clouds of Cold War enmity”, side-lining and coercing countries to choose sides was something that the Chinese President, Xi Jinping largely focussed on.

 

Henceforth, pushing the dialogue forward for a security alliance amongst the BRICS members through a spirit of multilateralism and rejection of hegemony. Claiming to commit further to operationalizing Global Security Initiative (GSI).
