Cyclone Jawad: IMD predicts heavy rainfall

Heavy rainfall for three states


 

The India meteorological department (IMD) predicted heavy rainfall for three states amid cyclone Jawad alert. The cyclone Jawad is likely to intensify today. Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal are likely to receive heavy rainfall today.


 

As per the India meteorological department (IMD), it said, the cyclonic storm is likely to hit north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha on Saturday (December 4) morning. It said, "it is likely to move northwest, intensity further and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh South Odisha coasts by Tomorrow  (December 4) adding more the India meteorological department said, "Thereafter it is likely to receive North northeast wards and move along the Odisha coast reaching near Puri around December 5noon. Subsequently, it is likely to continue to move north eastwards along coastal Odisha towards the Bay of Bengal.


The Odisha state is under complete preparation. All the fishing activities in the state have been stopped. People staying in low-lying areas have been shifted to a safer zone. Also, the NDRF and other teams have been deployed in the risk zones to cover an unavoidable situation.

 

Also, the Andhra Pradesh government has evacuated around 54,008 people from the three districts. It has also set up relief camps in school and community halls. 


For tomorrow (Sunday) heavy to very heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Kolkata, Purba, and Paschim Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Hooghly, and Howrah districts.
