Cyclone Tauktae: 188 rescued and 37 bodies recovered after Barge P-305 mishap

The search for missing people in the Barge P-305 submerged in cyclonic storm Tauktae continues,188 rescued and 37 bodies recovered.


The cyclonic storm has caused massive destruction in many parts of the country. So far, 37 bodies of the missing people from this devastating storm have been evacuated from the sea-buried ship P-305, while 188 people have been rescued. The Indian Navy has given information in this regard on Thursday.

The Navy said in a statement that a Coast Guard unit is engaged in rescue operations in the Arabian Sea and is searching for the missing people in the ship. In a tweet, the Indian Navy said, "188 people have been rescued so far and the bodies of 37 brave nature victims (BNVs) have been recovered." INS Kolkata has reached Mumbai to unload the dead bodies and rescue people. INS Kochi has rejoined SAR efforts. Indian Navy ships and aircraft are searching for missing crew members. Coast Guard units have joined the SAR effort.

In addition, the navy also rescued two more persons from the tugboat, Varaprada, which was swept away in the Arabian Sea due to the cyclonic storm. Meanwhile, the Indian Coast Guard on Wednesday reported that all crew of MV Denali anchored near Tarapur are safe. The crew of another ship MV Samarpan, located 19 nautical miles south of Diu, is also safe. Both these vessels are being monitored by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center Mumbai (MRCC).

This cyclonic storm took the form of a storm from Sunday and caused widespread devastation in different parts of the country for three days. Although the intensity of the cyclone was weak on Wednesday, rain continued in most parts of the country for most of the day. The cyclone has affected the weather conditions in many parts of North India, including Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi, where heavy rains were observed.
