A Dalit Farm Worker Was Beaten To Death


A cruel incident took place in Karod village of Madhya Pradesh's Guna area, where a 50 years old dalit farm worker was beaten to death after he refused to give a matchbox demanded by the accused to light cigarettes, stated by the police.

On Sunday, November 29, 2020, a report by the NDTV which quoted the police as saying that the victim identified as Lalji Ram Ahirwar, a dalit farm worker, was resting on a platform when the two accused identified as Yash Yadav and Ankesh Yadav, asked the victim to give a matchbox and light up their cigarettes, the victim's denial made the accused furious and following that argument the accused thrashed Lalji Ram with sticks.

The victim Lalji Ram was severely injured and was immediately driven to the Guna district hospital by some locals. 

Additional superintendent of police TS Baghel was quoted as saying that "Yash Yadav and Ankesh Yadav attacked Lalji Ram Ahirwar with sticks for denying a matchbox. He got severely injured and was admitted to the Guna district hospital immediately but unfortunately he died because of his severe injuries."

The police started the investigation about the case and arrested the two accused. A Murder case was registered against them, under IPC  Section 307 - attempt to murder and Section 302 - murder, and also under provisions of the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

The report given by a prominent news channel also mentioned that the government of Madhya Pradesh has also approved financial assistance of Rs. 8.25 lakhs to the family of Lalji Ram Ahirwar.
