Woman held Captive and Raped by Family Priest!


A 25-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped by a group of men, including a priest, for days in Rajasthan's Ajmer.

The accused was identified as Sanjay Sharma, knew the woman as he was her family priest and used to perform prayers for her family.

According to the police complaint, the accused raped the woman while she was alone at home and recorded the act.

Later, he extorted money and raped her again brutally, along with others, by holding her captive for many days.

The accused used to sedate the woman, and she is still unable to tell how many people were involved in the crime, the cops said.

The accused had threatened to kill her and her husband, children if she approached the police.

An FIR was registered based on the husband's complaint on October 7, and a search is going on for the accused. The medical examination has been done, and statements have also been recovered.

India registered 31,677 cases of rape in 2021 - an average 86 daily - while nearly 49 cases of crime against women were lodged every single hour, according to the latest government report on crimes in the country.

The number of rape cases in 2020 was 28,046, while it was 32,033 in 2019, the National Crime Records Bureau's (NCRB) 'Crime in India 2021' report showed. The NCRB functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Among states, Rajasthan (6,337) was on top of the list followed by Madhya Pradesh (2,947), Maharashtra (2,496) and Uttar Pradesh (2,845), while Delhi recorded 1,250 rape cases in 2021, it showed.
