Dalit youth beaten to death for touching food.

Two men thrashed a youth at private event in Madhya Pradesh.


A 25-year-old Dalit youth man was beaten to death by two upper caste men allegedly for touching their food during a private event at a village in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh’s on Monday. 

The deceased has been identified as Devraj Anuragi and the two accused as Santosh Pal and Bhoora soni. The incident took place in Kishanpur village, when the victim was called to clean up after a party. The two accused got angry when they noticed Devraj eating the food at the party and thrashed him with sticks to death, according to Gaurihar Station House officer Jaswant Singh Rajput

“They dropped him off (after the brutal assault) at his home after two hours. The victim youth’s family alleged that before breathing his last, Devraj Anuragi told them his two friends and he were at a party where he touched their food. The two friends assaulted him with hard and blunt objects in rage. When he fell unconscious the duo dropped him at his home after which he complained of chest pain and soon succumbed on Monday night,” said Sameer Saurabh, the Additional Superintendent of Police. 

Soni and Pal have managed to flee after the incident. Both accused have been booked under various sections of the IPC, including murder and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Bhoora already has a criminal record. “We have registered a murder case and formed teams track down the accused. They will be arrested soon,” said Sachin Sharma, Superintendent of Police.
