Delhi Air Quality Index stands at 309

AQ in the poor category!

With the arrival of the winter season and stubble burning procedure, the capital city surges with incessant pollution level.

The air quality index in the city stands at 309. There’s an improvement in the quality category but the category stands at a poor level.

According to data from the monitoring stations listed on the government website showing the National Air Quality Index, AQI in the Delhi University area stood at 355.

Meanwhile, Noida, which is part of the national capital region, recorded an overall AQI of 392 while Gurugram's AQI stood at 313, as per data released by SAFAR-India.

The subcommittee of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented Stage II of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) as per the severity of the situation in the capital on October 19.

This includes banning the use of coal and firewood in hotels, restaurants, and open eateries, along with the use of diesel generators.

If the situation turns 'severe' (Stage III), authorities will enforce a ban on construction and demolition activities in the NCR, except for essential projects (such as railways, metros, airports, and ISBTs).

Yesterday, the centre panel issued closure orders to 24 industrial units in the NCR for grossly violating air pollution-related statutes and guidelines.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".
