Delhi air quality remains in ‘severe’ category, as AQI is at 533

Delhi’s air quality at constant decrease!


According to data released by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) on Saturday morning said that Two days after Diwali, Delhi's air quality continues to be in the “severe” category, with the air quality index (AQI) alarming at 533.

 

According to ANI, On Saturday, the PM10 levels at Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar stood at 654 and 382 respectively. Meanwhile, PM2.5 levels were at 628 in Connaught Place, 341 near Jantar Mantar, and 374 near ITO.

 

A day after Diwali, The air quality in several parts of the city had deteriorated to “hazardous” category. A thick blanket of smog engulfed the national capital on Friday morning as several people reportedly complained of itchy throat and watery eyes.


The air quality at Janpath was recorded in the "hazardous" category early on Friday, with the particulate matter (PM) 2.5 concentration at 655.07, according to news agency ANI.

 

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'.

 

Experts said the air quality turned severe due to unfavourable meteorological conditions -- calm winds, low temperature and low mixing height -- and a poisonous gas of emissions from firecrackers and stubble burning, PTI reported.

 

The air quality forecast agency said that Air quality forecast agency SAFAR had said that the PM2.5 concentration would shoot up rapidly on Friday, with the AQI even crossing the 500 mark. Relief is expected only from the evening of November 7 but AQI will fluctuate within the "very poor" range.
