Delhi air quality touches poor category

AQI (Air Quality Index) decreasing in Delhi


On Monday, The air quality index (AQI) touches the poor category.  The pollution level in the capital city is deteriorating.

As per the central pollution control board (CPCB), the hourly Air quality index (AQI) at 7 am was 278 considered as a poor category.  The average 24 hour on Sunday was 289.

As per the union, the earth sciences Ministry's system of Air Quality and weather forecasting and Research (SAFAR). Delhi's air quality was likely to improve to the upper end of the poor category for the next two days. The expected change in the wind direction from westerly /south-westerly is likely to reduce the emissions from stubble burning.

Ahead of Upcoming festivals Diwali and Chatth the usage of firecrackers creates more choking environments in the city. The National Capital surges during winter and the stubble burning procedure hampers the environment of Delhi and nearby states.

The Air Quality index ( AQI ) between 0 t0 50 is good, 51 to 100 is satisfactory, 101 to 200 is moderate,  201 to 300 is poor, 301 to 400 is very poor and 401 to 500 is severe. 

Several initiatives have been implemented by the Delhi Government to curb the pollution level in the city such as red Light on Gaadi off, installation of smog towers, and door to door awareness.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said the Minimum temperature was expected to remain around 15 degrees Celsius and maximum to 30 degrees Celsius.
