Delhi Chakka Jam: Police on high alert to avoid Red-fort like incident

Delhi Chakka Jam updates

The farmers' protests looming over the national capital have entered the third month, yet the spirits and agitation remains intact. Farmers are firm on their demands of repealing the new farm laws and legislation of Minimum Selling Price (MSP). On the other hand, the government is rigid to withdraw the amendments which is infuriating the standoff. In response to the aggravated situation, farmers called 'chakka jam' on Saturday, 6 February 2021. The government has made provisions to ensure high security and alert in the region to prevent the reiteration of 'violence on 26 January 2020'. The traumatic visions that hit the TV screens on the same day have triggered mixed feelings among citizens, creating a divide among supporters of protests and government.

This order centering around highly secured control of capital was issued in a meeting chaired on Thursday by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and attended by NSA Ajit Doval, Commissioner of police S N Shrivastava and others. The security arrangements amid Saturday's Chakka Jam have been reviewed in the meeting in order to prevent the violence that erupted on Republic day.

Delhi Police is in constant talks with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana Police to prevent violence during 'Chakka Jam' with minimum inconvenience to the general public, said Amit Shah. The violence that caused a thunder on Republic day witnessed farmers storming the Red fort, clashing with police and hoisting religious flags on vacant flap posts. This resulted in the detention of 122 persons for rioting and damaging public property.

SKM (Samyukt Kisan Morcha), by the start of this week announced a nationwide 'chakka jam' on February 6 from 12 pm to 3 pm. The public stuck in the jam will be offered food and water and this will be an opportunity to tell them about our misery." Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be exempted from Jam.
