'Delhi Chalo' movement ; Haryana to seal borders to stop farmers marching towards Delhi

Hundreds of farmers from Punjab have began staging a dharna on the interstate border of Haryana and New Delhi, and are heading to Delhi.  'Delhi Chalo' protest is expected to begin from 26  November morning and the farmers will move towards the national capital.  The Haryana government has, however, decided to seal its borders with Punjab on November 26 and 27 and are not allowing them to enter Delhi. Farmers have been protesting against the centers recently enacted farm laws.

The Delhi Police have appealed to the farmers not to enter the national capital as they do not have permission to continue their protest in Delhi. Farmers would move peacefully towards Delhi through five different highways that are Amritsar, Hisar, Jaipur, Bareilly, and Agra’s highway and allegedly have a master plan for the movement.

"A specific call has been given by protesting (farmers') organizations to gather in Ambala, Bhiwani, Karnal, Bahadurgarh, Jhajjar, and Sonipat (before heading to Delhi)...Delhi government also denied permitted to do any protest in Ram Leela Ground or at Jantar Mantar blockades will be created to ensure law and order... all citizens are being informed so they can plan and modify their journey to avoid any inconvenience," the Haryana Police statement read.

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar's state government has decided to seal the Haryana-Punjab border from November 25 to 27 in view of the proposed call of ‘Delhi Chalo’ given by the farmers.

Haryana has imposed Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in order to restrict the protest. According to Police estimates nearly 2, 00,000 farmers from Punjab will march towards Delhi as part of their 'Delhi Chalo' agitation from November 26  meanwhile the police had taken nearly 100 farmer leaders from the state into "preventive custody".
