Delhi civic body issues guidelines for proper disposal of damaged national flags

Amid upcoming festival of Independence Day, The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has instructed all zonal offices to ensure the proper disposal of damaged national flags under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.

 

As per the information, All concerned have been directed that in case any national flag is found soiled, distorted, and damaged, it will be deposited in the zonal control room by the sanitary inspector of MCD of the concerned ward and zone.

 

Thereafter, a soiled, distorted, damaged or broken national flag will be disposed of as per the directions issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs under the Flag Code of India-2002 under Section-V (misuse) and in terms of The Prevention of Insults To National Honour Act, 1971 (as amended).

 

According to the statement given by a senior official of the MCD, the corporation attached great importance and dignity to the tricolour. He said instructions had been given to all zonal offices that when a flag is found damaged or soiled, it shall not be thrown aside or disposed of casually, but shall be disposed of with the dignity attached to the flag in accordance with the rules contained in rules.

 

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (75 years of independence). Under this campaign, the national flag will be hoisted atop more than 20 crores of houses along with government and private establishments from 13-15 August across the country through public participation.
