Delhi court gives death sentence to Ariz Khan in Batla House Case.

Indian Mujahideen terrorist Ariz Khan sentenced to death. Delhi Court sentenced Ariz on Monday evening. He was arrested after years in the Batla House encounter case.


In the Batla House encounter case, Indian Mujahideen member Ariz Khan has been sentenced to death by the Patiala House Court in Delhi. On 8 March, the court held Ariz guilty of firing on police.

Batla House encounter convict Ariz Khan has been sentenced to death by a Delhi court. The court has regulated the case to be the 'rarest of the rare'. The court, in its judgment on 8 March, said that at the time of the encounter, Ariz Khan was on the spot and he had escaped from the grip of the police. The court said that he had fired at the policemen before fleeing. The court said that in the Batla House clash, the police team's Chief Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma had also opened fire on Ariz, which killed him.

Delhi Police had asked the court to sentence Ariz Khan to death. Senior Public Prosecutor AT Ansari, appearing for the Delhi Police, had said that the officer who was the custodian of justice, who complied with the law, has been murdered. He was on his duty. So, there is a need to take strict steps in the matter.

The court had said that Ariz Khan has been convicted under sections 186, 333, 353, 302, 307, 174A, 34 of the IPC. He has also been convicted under Section 27 of the Arms Act. He was seized by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in February 2018 after reportedly fleeing for a decade. The court said that it has been verified that Ariz Khan and his associates had intentionally hurt the policemen. The court also said that Khan fired on Inspector MC Sharma, killing him. Additional Sessions Judge (ADJ) Sandeep Yadav said that the prosecution presented enough evidence which cannot be doubted.

On September 13, 2008, serial bomb blasts in Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, India Gate and Greater Kailash, in which 26 people were killed, and 133 were injured. Bomb blasts were carried out by the IM group founded by Delhi police in the investigation. It got a guide from the blast in Gujarat. There was a blast in Gujarat on 26 July 2008. The Gujarat Police investigated and got the leads they had shared with the police of all the states apart from the intelligence agencies. Information was also shared with Delhi Police. When those leads were developed, a search operation was carried out at Batla House based on that.
